Thus says one of the Geats who is chained to the stake:
"God punishes betrayal and avenges outrages!"
Rogar, terrified, issues an order:
"Extinguish the fire! Free the prisoners!"
Beowulf and the Weder Geats stand before Rogar and his court. . .
Rogar begs:
Beowulf, I was unfair and God has given me my doom! Save my son and sentence me to the punishment you like! "
The Geat says:
"Thou liest as well on the gospel: you we pray to gold while plotting another deception."
"I beseech you, crying, just for my son ..."
"Though you have broken the covenant I would fight for the innocent. The goal is worthy ... give me back my sword!"
"You must follow the right path of repentance and redemption ..."
"Kneel down and know the way to God. He is the judge between us"
In Frotha’s den, Gunnar crouches, filled with horror and fright. . .
The horrific old woman watches over the churning of her potions in the stills.
Ravens, owls, and bats watching with large basilisk eyes. Snakes crawl throbbing beneath his feet. . .
"Shadows of the night, radiant light of moon toad slime, a drop of bile, mixed and filtered ..."
She looks at Gunnar and the lad watches her horrified. Frotha approaches with a bowl and a dagger:
"And now the flower of your veins will flow freely from the wound! Grendel will live again!"
She raises her weapon towards the crouching lad. . .
Every unclean bird and flying fiend soars overhead, reptiles hissing and snapping past their ears . . .
